Science Behind Our Methods

Get in Touch

The 10AM Start Time

Traditional, early morning pre-professional programs frequently conflict with the natural biological clock of teenagers. However, at Degage, our mid-morning start is a calculated decision rooted in chronobiology.

  • Protection Against Sleep Deprivation: During puberty, adolescents experience a biological phase delay, naturally pushing sleep cycles, ensuring the body enters deep, restorative REM sleep. This is the exact physiological window when human growth hormone is secreted to repair muscle tissue, rebuild tendons and consolidate motor skill memory.
  • Optimal Core Temperature & Safety: According to athletic performance data tracked in sports science journals, core body temperature naturally reaches an optimal state mid-to-late morning. Higher core temperature lowers joint fluid viscosity, creating safer, more pliable muscles and ligaments. Starting rigorous work at 10am means we are training a warm biomechanical structure, directly mitigating acute injury risks others acquire from starting earlier in the morning or late at night during fatigue.
  • Peak Neuromuscular Function: Reaction times and spatial cognitive tracking are severely compromised in the early morning. By mid-morning, cortical activity peaks, allowing our dancers to learn complex choreography and obtain corrections with more confidence and make adjustments with more precision.

The 5.5hr Elite Training Block-Stratigic Energy Pacing

A continuous 5.5hr training window mimics the exact environment of professional European and American Ballet companies, building and industry-ready work capacity.

  • Sub-Maximal Endurance Development: Rather than pushing dancers to a point of metabolic exhaustion through repeated high-intensity cycles, our daily block blends periods of high physical output with low-impact neuromuscular conditioning. this builds elite cardiorespiratory endurance and muscular stamina sustainably.
  • Glycogen Management & Performance Longevity: This schedule teaches the adolescent body how to efficiently utilize and replenish muscle glycogen. Though targeted recovery breaks, dancers develop the exact metabolic pacing required to handle full-length variations and grueling rehearsal days without hitting a wall.
  • How do dancers handle a 5.5hr day without burning out or getting injured? We do not train at maximum intensity for the 5.5hr straight. Our curriculum is strategically paced. High impact classical ballet is balanced with low-impact neuromuscular conditioning like Pilates, Yoga, and Floor Barre. This variety presents repetitive strain injuries, builds exceptional cardiovascular and muscular endurance and mimics the intensity of a professional finishing school and company.

Synergetic Wellness Integration

True career preparation requires a "fit for purpose" body. We seamlessly integrate our wellness modalities directly into our classical training to address every angle of dance medicine.

  • Floor Barre: (Biomechanical Alignment): By eliminating the weight-bearing demands of gravity, Floor Barre allows dancers to isolate deep muscle groups without overtaxing changing, adolescent joints. It builds foundational muscle memory that translates cleanly when the dancer stands up to repeat in technique class.
  • Pilates: (Eccentric Core Stability): Our Pilates integration focuses heavily on the eccentric muscle contractions-lengthening a muscle under tension. Sprots medicine research validates that this specific training method builds the long, resilient muscle architecture mandatory for ballet while strengthening the deep stabilizing muscles of the spine and pelvis to protect against growth-spurt injuries.
  • Yoga/Breath Work (Active Range of Motion 7 Nervous System Regulation): True elite flexibility requires strength at the end-range of movement, not just passive stretching. Yoga introduces dynamic and active flexibility while incorporating breathwork that regulates the autonomic nervous system. This reduces cortisol, lowers performance anxiety, and optimizes active physiological recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at cody@degageclassical.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

"Vocational Ballet Training" refers to a specialized form of ballet training that focuses on preparing students for a professional career in ballet. Training includes intensive classes in ballet technique, pointe work, variations, pas de deux, and other aspects of classical ballet. Vocational ballet programs often have a structured curriculum designed to develop the skills and artistry required for a successful career in ballet. Students in vocational ballet programs may also have opportunities to perform in productions and participate in competitions to further their training and experience. At DCC we not only provide connections and a curriculum that provides this foundation, but we assure you that your dancer and whole family will be prepared to the fullest for this venture towards a chapter in Vocational Arts School.

"Wellness" in the context of ballet training refers to a holistic approach that encompasses various physical, mental, and emotional aspects essential for dancers' overall health and performance. It goes beyond just physical fitness and technique to include practices and principles that support a dancer's entire well-being. Interested in learning more? Degage Classical Conservatory is for the professionally minded student and family. We are a morning-based program that allows for flexible family balance. However, we believe that professional training will be a full family commitment.  DCC promotes a lifestyle and inner belief system that aligns with building a healthy artist and full human. We ask that parents be just as involved in journey as the dancer. Encouraging wellness and full body health, we at DCC ask each family to keep open minds, hearts, and transparent communication as a priority. The world of classical ballet can be overwhelming at times and it will take more than technique to thrive. We take our responsibility of professional mentorship seriously and in turn ask that we all work as a team to master each child's journey.
